Matrix Mindset: How You Win the Game of Life

Are we in a Matrix?

The reality is we can’t know for sure.

That said, I hope we’re in a Matrix and so should you.

It doesn’t matter whether we’re in a Matrix or not, you should live your life with a Matrix Mindset and I’m going to explain why that’s the case.

But, before I do, here’s Elon Musk’s take on the topic and he’s taken advantage of the Matrix Mindset more than most:

If you assume any rate of improvement at all, then games will be indistinguishable from reality, or civilization will end. One of those two things will occur. Therefore, we are most likely in a simulation, because we exist.

Elon Musk has simplified the argument of the Philosopher, Nick Bostrom who argues in his Simulation Argument that one of three possible scenarios must be true:

  1. All civilizations become extinct before becoming technologically mature
  2. All technologically mature civilizations lose interest in creating simulations
  3. Humanity is literally living in a computer simulation

The Matrix Mindset

So, why would I be happy that we’re in a Matrix, you might ask yourself.

The simple answer is Rules. If we’re in a computer simulation, then the simulation has rules it’s built on.

When there are Rules, there are also:

  1. Hacks
  2. Exploits
  3. Patterns
  4. Systems

Someone with a Matrix Mindset looks to take advantage of all four of these areas.

They’re not looking to complain about being in a Matrix, they’re looking for how they can exploit the Matrix to live the best possible life they can live and Elon Musk himself is an excellent example of this.

He consistently looks for first principles (patterns).

Elon seeks to bend the system, or Matrix, to his will, whether that’s in electrical cars and infrastructure, space travel, social media or artificial intelligence.

He doesn’t treat the Matrix as if it’s a system to hold us back. He treats the Matrix as if it’s a tool we can use to live whatever life we want to live while we’re in it and that’s what we’re going to dive into.

This is where it all starts – patterns.

With a Matrix Mindset, you should be consumed with Pattern Recognition.

In any area of life that you want to excel at, you’re going to want to use pattern recognition to do it and here’s some of the patterns I want you to look for:

  1. Skill stacks
  2. Habits and behaviors
  3. Paths of successful people

Skill stacks

Your Skill Stack is your toolkit of skills and competencies you’ve developed in your life, which includes:

  • Skills
  • Knowledge
  • and, Expertise

When you’re in the Matrix, you’re able to see what combination of skills can derive more valuable skill stacks and you have the ability to build out the skill stack of your choice.

We’ve already discussed previously that you should be focused on building a skill stack of Rare Skills and I’ve been able to determine why rare skills lead to an optimal Skill Stack by observing the patterns of wealthy people before me – whether directly or indirectly.

You should do your own work to determine what your optimal Skill Stack of Rare Skills will be.

Habits and behaviors

If you want to be fit, surround yourself with fit people.

If you want to be wealthy, surround yourself with wealthy people.

The people you surround yourself with determine who you are going to become.

When you put yourself in a situation to be in the right room or to observe people directly or indirectly who’ve achieved what you want to achieve, you can seek to understand their habits and behaviors. Then,

  1. Choose the behavior or habit you want
  2. Copy that behavior or habit until it’s part of you
  3. Select the next behavior or habit and repeat the process

Don’t constrain yourself to only one person – choose the best habits and behaviors of each person you want to embody and make their habits and behaviors your own.

Paths of Successful People

Most successful people have their paths written online or in books.

Use the same tactics discussed in habits and behaviors above and design your life path:

  1. Know what you want
  2. Understand what it takes
  3. Do the work. Day in. Day out

Once you’ve identified what you want, find the paths of those who’ve succeeded and make them your own.
